CADA was delighted to take part in the latest phase of the Shared Island, Shared World, Shared Future project, which took place in Dublin on 11th November. The in-person forum marked a key milestone in the Shared Island Global Citizenship Education (GCE) initiative, bringing together practitioners, policymakers, and advocates from across Ireland and beyond.
Hosted in partnership by Dóchas, the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA), and CADA, the event explored how Global Citizenship Education can strengthen cooperation, dialogue, and understanding across the island. Building on the insights of four previous sessions, it focused on turning strategic frameworks into practical actions.
The day opened with an engaging panel discussion featuring Liam Wegimont (Global Education Network Europe), Lesley Emerson (Queen’s University Belfast), and Charlotte Dwyer (ScotDec), moderated by Bobby McCormack (Development Perspectives / IDEA). Their contributions offered valuable insights into cross-border collaboration, policy, and international practice.
Afternoon roundtables allowed participants to develop concrete recommendations to advance a shared island vision for GCE – grounded in four key pillars: Funding, Policy and Advocacy, Curriculum Integration, and Collaboration and Partnerships.
CADA attended alongside representatives from member organisations including Children in Crossfire, Trócaire, Oxfam Ireland, Habitat for Humanity Ireland, and Self Help Africa. The forum provided an inspiring space for reflection, dialogue, and collective planning for the future.
